The speaker for our September 20, 2017 General Meeting will be Major Alan Woolley, CD . The subject of his talk will be,” Peacekeeping in Conflicts around the World”. Major Wooley is a resident of Fort Erie and is currently serving as a civilian cease-fire monitor in the conflict region of the Ukraine. An officer in the Lincoln and Welland Regiment, he has served as a reservist in the Canadian Armed Forces for 39 years. He spent much of his time in Africa on peacekeeping missions to Egypt, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Sierra Leone. He also was deployed as part of Canada’s mission in Afghanistan. During the last 7 years of his career, his mission was to teach African Union officers to plan and conduct peacekeeping missions. This task took him across Africa as his team trained over 600 officers from 25 different African nations. Alan retired from the Army in 2013 and now works for the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe. As previously mentioned, for the last two and a half years he has been in the Donbass region of Ukraine serving as a cease-fire monitor.
